SOCIAL MEDIA GUIDELINES
This group is inclusive of all people, regardless of race, color, religion, gender identification, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, or genetics. In the interest of privacy and safety, members of this group must be 18 years of age or older. Exceptions can be made for children of established members. If you have a problem with another member or need assistance, please tag a member of the Admin Team.
Please continue to add like-minded individuals that you know will support our cause. However, do be mindful of those you are adding and report any posts that seem suspect or out of line.
Please do not share stories, names, or pictures of anyone in this group on your personal social media or any other social media. We take privacy very seriously here and we will remove anyone who violates the privacy of another member.
Please do not use this group to solicit for personal causes. Providing information that is asked for is fine, but linking solely to a personal site or posting for personal gain is prohibited and will result in removal. When in doubt, message one of the Admins.
Consider our guidelines when submitting posts; we moderate all of the posts we receive.
Moderation means that posts will not be published instantly; rather, they will be screened by moderators who will process them as quickly as possible. This is not about censoring your views. The aim is to ensure that posts adhere to our bylaws, are relevant to our cause and location, and are respectful of all viewpoints. Moderation will not be used to suppress legitimate and reasoned discussion. There may be delays in publication if we need to seek further information to verify accuracy.
We will normally approve comments for social media publication as long as they:
Are on-topic: do not post messages unrelated to the thread.
Respect other people: comments should not be malicious or offensive in nature and should not constitute a personal attack on a person’s character.
Do not incite hatred on the basis of race, religion, gender, nationality or sexuality or any other personal characteristic.
Do not reveal personal details, such as private addresses, phone numbers, email addresses or other online contact details.
Are reasonably concise and do not constitute spamming of the site.
Do not impersonate or falsely claim to represent a person or organization.
Do not include swearing, hate speech, or obscenities.
Do not break the law: this includes libel, condoning illegal activity, and breaking copyright.
Do not advertise commercial products and services; however, you can mention relevant products and services as long as they support your comment.
Are in English: unfortunately, we currently do not have the resources to moderate comments in other languages.
Are evidence-based articles coming from credible news sources. Remember to fact check your information. Do your best to ensure what you are posting is true.
All defamatory, abusive, profane, threatening, offensive, offensive towards members, argumentative for the sake of arguing, or illegal comments are prohibited and can result in removal. Do not spam. Do not post the same or similar comments repeatedly on the same post or across multiple posts; this can result in removal as well.
We encourage and welcome open and lively debate; however, the decision to publish comments received via Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter remains solely at the discretion of PVC-appointed Moderators. If the content is offensive, denigrating, or completely out of context, we will reject it. Trolling is disallowed, as is bullying. Either will result in immediate removal from PVC. Please include a disclaimer if you are a well-known affiliate of another group or organization and are not speaking in an official capacity for that group.
Remember this: they go low, we go high. Be kind and courteous; if you see something that is out of line, report it to the Admin Team.
Do not share another member's post without their express permission. Do not use screenshots that contain other member's names or identifying material. Doing so will result in immediate removal from the group.
Members are prohibited from blocking the Admin Team. If you block an Admin you will be removed from the group.
REMOVAL FROM PVC
Aside from the exceptions for immediate removal specified previously, violations of this policy will result in a warning. A second violation would result in removal from PVC. A letter will be sent via any means available to the Executive Board Communications Chair (e.g., Slack, email, or personal mail). Removal from social media also designates removal from all PVC meetings, events, fundraisers, and any other sponsored functions.
After a 6-month time period, a removed member may petition the Board to rejoin the group as follows:
Submit a letter to the Board stating reasons for rejoining.
Obtain at least two letters of recommendation from PVC members in good standing.
Schedule a meeting with the Board where at least two-thirds of Board is present.
The Board will respond within 14 days to indicate whether the individual will be reinstated.
